What happens when we template your kitchen
A templater visits once your cabinets are fitted and level, and measures the space by hand to a fraction of a millimetre. That measurement becomes the digital file the stone is cut from. It takes about an hour, and fitting normally follows within three to five working days.
What has to be ready before we come
Cabinets fitted, level and secured. That is the big one, because the template is taken off your actual units rather than off a plan, and a unit that moves afterwards makes the template wrong. Sink and hob on site, or at least the exact models confirmed, so the cut-outs are right. Any appliances that sit under the worktop in position. And the space clear enough to get a tripod round.
If something is not ready, tell us before the visit rather than on the day. Rearranging a template is easy. Cutting stone to a template that has moved is not.
What the visit involves
We set up on a tripod and take a digital measurement of the whole run, capturing lengths, angles, wall irregularities, cut-out positions, overhangs and joint positions. Walls are rarely square, and this is the step that makes the difference between a worktop that sits tight to the wall and one with a visible gap.
We will also confirm the decisions that are easier to make standing in the room than over a drawing: which way the veining should run, where any joints should fall, how far the island should overhang, and whether the splashback should be a short upstand or full height.
What happens next
The digital file goes to the workshop that will cut your stone. Your slab is laid out against that file so the pieces fall in the best place on the slab, matching the veining across joints where the pattern allows. You approve the slab from photographs before anything is cut. Then it is cut wet, polished, and delivered to us for fitting.
Templating to fitting is typically three to five working days. It can be longer for a stone that has to come in specially, or for heavy detailing such as mitred waterfall ends or bookmatching.
Fitting day
We protect the floors, bring the pieces in, dry fit, then bond and seal. A straightforward kitchen is a morning. An island with waterfall ends is a full day. We take the packaging away with us, and we will not leave until you have looked at it properly in your own light.
