Privacy Policy
What we collect when you enquire, what we do with it, and what you can ask us to do about it, including the Google advertising cookies this site sets and how to turn them off.
Who we are
Topcat Worktops Ltd supplies and installs quartz, granite, marble and other natural stone worktops across London and the Home Counties. When you use this website or enquire with us, Topcat Worktops Ltd is the data controller for the personal information you provide.
You can reach us at 27 Old Gloucester Street, London, WC1N 3AX, on 0800 098 2812, or by email at info@topcatworktops.co.uk.
What we collect
We collect only what you type into an enquiry form on this site. Depending on the form, that is your name, your email address, your telephone number, your postcode, the service you are interested in, and anything you choose to write in the message box.
You do not have to give us both an email address and a phone number. One or the other is enough for us to reply, and the forms are built that way.
When you send an enquiry, it also carries a short summary of how you used this site on this device, such as the pages you viewed, the buttons you pressed, and any estimate you built in the worktop estimator, including the stone you chose. We include it so we can answer you accurately. Until you send a form it stays in your browser and is not transmitted to us or to anyone else.
Why we use it
We use your details for one purpose: to answer your enquiry, arrange a free home visit where you have asked for one, and prepare and discuss a quotation. That is the basis on which we hold it, and we do not use it for anything else.
We do not send marketing email, we do not build a mailing list from enquiries, and we do not sell, rent or share your details with anyone for their own marketing.
Cookies and tracking
This website advertises with Google, and Google's advertising tag runs on every page. It sets two cookies. One belongs to this site, is named _gcl_au, lasts about three months, and lets Google tell that an enquiry came from one of our adverts. The other is set by doubleclick.net, which is Google's own advertising domain, and lasts about a year. The tag keeps one related value in your browser's storage as well.
There is no analytics service on this site, no social media pixel, and no advertising network other than Google.
Because that tag runs, your browser contacts Google while you are here, and Google receives your IP address and the address of the page you are reading. Google may use that to measure its adverts and to show you advertising on other sites. Nothing else on these pages comes from anywhere but this site: the typefaces, the images and the film are all served from our own domain.
Separately from Google, the site keeps a small note of your visit in your own browser's storage, on your device, so that an enquiry you send can include the summary described above. It stays on your device, expires by itself within a month, and is sent to us only as part of an enquiry you choose to submit. No third party receives it, and clearing your browser data removes it.
You can block or delete any of this in your browser settings, and you can turn off personalised advertising in your Google account at myadcenter.google.com. Nothing on this site needs a cookie in order to work, and the enquiry forms send perfectly well with cookies switched off.
Who else sees your enquiry
Your enquiry is read by the people at Topcat Worktops who need to read it in order to answer it and to carry out the work. Where we use an outside supplier to deliver or install your worktop, we pass on only what that job needs, such as a delivery address and a contact number.
We may also have to disclose information where the law requires it. We do not transfer your information outside the United Kingdom for our own purposes.
How long we keep it
We keep enquiries that do not become orders for as long as they are useful in answering you and no longer than we need them. Where an enquiry becomes an order, we keep the records for as long as the guarantee runs and for as long as tax and accounting law requires us to.
If you would like your details removed sooner, ask us and we will do it.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct it if it is wrong, ask us to delete it, and object to our using it. Ask by email at info@topcatworktops.co.uk or by phone on 0800 098 2812, and we will reply within one month.
If you are not happy with how we have handled your information you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, or on 0303 123 1113.
Security
Enquiries sent from this site travel over an encrypted connection, and access to them is limited to the people who need it. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, so we cannot promise absolute security, but we take reasonable care of what you send us.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and change the date below. This policy applies to this website only, and not to any other site you may reach from a link on it.
